Tommaso Turchetta is currently First Kapellmeister at the Aalto Musiktheater in Essen. In recent seasons he conducted performances of La Bohème, Lucrezia Borgia, My Fair Lady, The Magic Flute, La Cenerentola, Tosca, symphonic repertoire and ballet. In the 2025/26 season he conducts Rigoletto, Wiener Blut, La Traviata and La Fanciulla del West among others.

From 2019 to 2023, he worked at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, conducting a wide range of international repertoire including Tosca, La Traviata, Carmen, Lakmé, Mignon, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, The Magic Flute, L’Italiana in Algeri, Werther, Il Trittico, and Samson et Dalila. In May 2022, he conducted The Passenger by Mieczysław Weinberg, a production that won the Austrian Music Theater Prize (Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis) for Best Opera of the 2021/22 season. In the 2023/24 season he conducted new productions of Lakmé and La Traviata.
Alongside opera, he has led the Tiroler Symphonieorchester in numerous symphonic concerts and the Tiroler Ensemble für Neue Musik (TENM) in contemporary music performances.
In 2023, he was awarded a scholarship by the Richard Wagner Stipendienstiftung to attend productions at the Bayreuth Festival.
In Italy, he appeared as guest conductor at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste in October 2024 with a concert featuring Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms and works by Luigi Dallapiccola, Cesare Barison, Sandro Fuga. In March 2022 he conducted Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno.
Between 2015 and 2018, he worked as a répétiteur at the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin (Strasbourg) and at the Gerhart-Hauptmann Theater in Görlitz (Germany), where he also conducted the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie in several concerts. He was also regularly invited to collaborate on Italian productions at Bühnen Bern as a language coach and musical assistant. In the spring of 2018, he assisted Sebastian Lang-Lessing in a production of Massenet’s Manon at the Korea National Opera in Seoul.
Born in Naples, Tommaso Turchetta holds diplomas in piano, composition, and orchestral conducting. He refined his conducting skills under Donato Renzetti at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese and Mark Stringer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. After his studies, he was selected to join the Opera Studio “Silvio Varviso” at the Ticino Musica International Festival in Lugano (Switzerland), where, between 2013 and 2018, he conducted La cambiale di matrimonio, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro, L’elisir d’amore, Così fan tutte, and L’Italiana in Algeri. In 2015, he was a student at the Teatro alla Scala Academy for répétiteurs, receiving valuable guidance and support from Umberto Finazzi.
